The Local Organizing Committee on behalf of the Global Soil Biodiversity initiative (GSBI) and supported by the Biological Survey of Canada are excited to welcome you to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada for the 4th Global Soil Biodiversity Conference in April. We’ve curated a selection of tours exclusively for delegates, available to book through the registration link.

Salt Spring (Cider & Sea Views)

Time: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm*
Duration: 10 hours *
Ticket Price: $360
Maximum Capacity: 56 (52 guests, +1 facilitator +3 volunteers)

This full-day excursion invites guests to experience the charm of Salt Spring Island — a West Coast gem known for its natural beauty and artisanal food culture. After transportation from Victoria to the ferry terminal, enjoy a scenic sailing across the Salish Sea to Salt Spring Island. Upon arrival, stretch your legs with a moderate coastal hike at Ruckle Provincial Park, where forest trails open onto rocky shorelines and sweeping ocean views. Afterwards, relax and recharge over a locally sourced lunch at the Salt Spring Wild Cider House, known for its award-winning ciders and seasonal menu.

Tour includes transportation, lunch (3 courses with cider tastings), ferry tickets and admission fees.

Whale Watching Tour

Tour: 9:00 am – 1:30 pm
Duration: 4.5 hours

Experience the marine ecosystems of the west coast on a 3.5–4 hour whale and wildlife watching tour departing from Victoria’s historic Fisherman’s Wharf (a 20-minute walk from the conference venue). This professionally guided excursion offers the opportunity to observe orcas, humpback whales, sea lions, porpoises, and seabirds in their natural environment while learning about the Salish Sea’s rich biodiversity.

Knowledgeable naturalists on board will provide interpretation on species ecology, conservation issues, and the coastal habitats that support this remarkable wildlife. Multiple wildlife viewing stops and stunning coastal scenery make this a meaningful and memorable west coast experience.

Tour includes lunch box and admission fees.

Ride the Lochside: Coastal Countryside by E-Bike!

Experience Victoria’s scenic coastal countryside on a self-guided E-bike adventure along the Lochside Trail. This 3-hour tour offers a leisurely ride through 29 km of picturesque terrain, including lush farmland, quiet beaches, rural roads, and quirky urban backyards. Along the way, riders will find plenty of local cafés, bakeries, and farm stands offering a taste of the region — perfect for a relaxed lunch or quick bite. Ideal for nature lovers and casual cyclists alike, this tour is a relaxed way to explore the region’s unique landscapes at your own pace.

A shuttle will transport participants from the Victoria Conference Centre to the trailhead on the Saanich Peninsula. Each guest will receive an electric bike, helmet, safety briefing, and a map highlighting key attractions and the return location for gear drop-off.

Tour includes rental of an e-bike and helmet. Participants will be required to dress appropriately and purchase their own food.

Butchart Gardens

Explore The Butchart Gardens and discover one of Canada’s most iconic examples of landscape transformation. Once the site of a limestone quarry for cement production, the area was restored by Jennie Butchart into a world-renowned 55-acre paradise that has captivated visitors for over 120 years and is now a National Historic Site of Canada.

In Spring, the garden comes alive with over 300,000 blooming bulbs, including daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths, infusing the air with their delightful scents. Take on a journey through this floral wonderland and experience the enchanting beauty of Butchart Gardens – the perfect escape for nature lovers and garden enthusiasts alike!
